A three-event athletics game. Hammer the left and right keys to sprint 100 metres, add a jump for each of ten hurdles, then run up to the board and time your take-off in the long jump. The points from all three decide your medal.
About Track Star
Track Star is a button-masher in the tradition of the old arcade athletics games, cut down to three events that take about a minute and a half in total. Each one adds a single idea to the one before.
The 100 metre sprint is pure speed. You run by pressing left and right in turn, and only alternating presses count; hitting the same key twice actually slows you down. Three computer runners line up beside you, the gun goes, and the faster your fingers, the faster the runner. A speed bar at the top turns green when you are near flat out.
The 110 metre hurdles keeps the same running and adds ten barriers. Each needs a jump just before you reach it. Clear it and you lose nothing. Clip it and the hurdle goes down, your speed is cut in half and you stumble for a moment, which is hard to win back over the short gap to the next one.
The long jump has no rivals. You build speed down the runway, then hold the jump button as you approach the white board and let go to take off. The longer you hold, the steeper the angle, and the number shown over the runner turns green in the best range, around forty degrees. Leave the ground past the board and it is a foul. You get three attempts and the best one counts.
Each event is worth roughly a thousand points for a strong performance, with a bonus for finishing ahead of the other runners. The total earns bronze, silver or gold, and your best total and best marks are saved.

How to play Track Star
Sprint: when the gun goes, press Left and Right alternately as fast as you can. Hurdles: run the same way and press jump just before each hurdle. Long jump: run to build speed, hold jump before the white board, and release to take off before the red line; you have three attempts. After each event the result is shown, and the points from all three are added for the final medal.

Tips & tricks
- Alternate cleanly. Two presses of the same key in a row cost speed, so rhythm beats frantic mashing.
- Use one finger from each hand on a keyboard, or two thumbs on a phone. It is faster than two fingers of one hand.
- In the hurdles, jump when the barrier is about two strides away. Jumping late clips it.
- Keep running while you are in the air over a hurdle. Speed barely drops in flight.
