A turn-based tank artillery duel on randomly generated, destructible hills. Dial in your angle and power, read the wind, and lob a shell that arcs over the terrain and carves a smoking crater on impact. First gunner to knock the other tank down to zero HP takes the hill. Play against an Easy or Hard CPU, or grab a friend for pass-and-play.
About Artillery Duel
Artillery Duel is a cozy-but-explosive take on the classic lob-a-shell tank battle, in the lineage of Scorched Earth, Pocket Tanks and Gunbound. Every match begins on a fresh, procedurally generated ridge of rolling hills, and that ground is fully destructible: each blast scoops a real crater out of the heightmap, so the battlefield reshapes itself shot by shot until someone is stranded in a pit or blown clean off. A shifting per-turn wind nudges your shell left or right, turning every shot into a quick mental ballistics puzzle. The whole thing is drawn and synthesized from scratch on an HTML5 canvas - hand-tuned explosion particles, flying terrain debris, screen shake, a glowing shell trail and floating damage numbers - so it feels punchy without a single downloaded asset. Choose your fight: a forgiving Easy CPU that aims roughly and misses often, a sharp Hard CPU that actually runs the trajectory math, or local two-player pass-and-play for couch rivalries. Your win/loss record against the computer is saved between sessions.
Inside Artillery Duel: what we checked
The numbers below come from Artillery Duel's own source code, and the screenshots are from our own test run of the game (20 October 2026).

- Both tanks start every round on 100 HP. A normal shell does at most 34 damage, and only for a direct hit: damage shrinks the further the blast lands from the tank and reaches zero at about 63 units away.
- Press Q (or the Weapon button) to switch to the Cluster shell. It has a smaller blast (26 against 42) and does at most 16 damage, but it bursts into four bomblets when it lands, so it can cover a wider patch of ground.
- The wind is re-rolled before every single shot, between 3.2 pushing left and 3.2 pushing right, so a setting that hit last turn will usually drift off the next one.
- Every blast carves a crater out of the hills, so the ground you are hiding behind can disappear mid-round.
- The computer works out its shot by simulating angles and powers, then adds random error. Easy is off by up to 12 degrees and 18 power, Hard by only 3 degrees and 5 power, and the computer only ever fires the normal shell.
- Your wins and losses against the computer are kept in this browser. Pass & Play rounds are not counted.

How to play Artillery Duel
On your turn, set two things: the ANGLE of your barrel (how high you aim) and the POWER of the shot (how hard you fling it). Watch the wind indicator in the center of the HUD - a right arrow pushes your shell further right, a left arrow pulls it back, and the number shows how strong the gust is. When you are happy with your aim, hit FIRE and watch the shell arc over the hills. Where it lands it explodes, blasting a crater into the ground and hurting any tank inside the blast radius (closer hits do more damage). Then it is the other gunner's turn, with a brand-new wind. Keep adjusting and firing back and forth - direct hits and near misses chip away at the enemy health bar. Drop your opponent to 0 HP to win the duel. You can also switch to the CLUSTER weapon, which bursts into several smaller bomblets for spread damage when a single shell keeps missing.
Controls
Mouse / touch: drag the slider tracks (or tap the up/down step buttons) to set Angle and Power, or simply drag directly on the battlefield from your tank to aim - distance sets power, direction sets angle. Tap WEAPON to switch shells, then tap FIRE. Keyboard: Left/Right arrows adjust angle, Up/Down arrows adjust power (hold Shift for bigger steps of 5), Space or Enter fires, Q switches weapon, M toggles mute. Any key or tap on the start/demo screen begins a fresh game.
Tips & tricks
- Wind is everything: aim slightly INTO the wind so the gust carries your shell onto the target instead of past it.
- Your last shot is free intel - if you overshot, drop the power a notch or two and fire from almost the same angle to walk the shell onto the enemy.
- Around 45 degrees gives you maximum range; raise the angle for a steeper, shorter lob that can drop behind hills the enemy is hiding under.
- Blasts carve craters, so use the terrain - dig the ground out from under the enemy tank and it can slide into a hole that is hard to escape.
Frequently asked questions
How does wind work in Artillery Duel?
The arrow in the centre of the HUD shows the wind for this turn: pointing right pushes your shell further right, pointing left pulls it back, and the number is its strength. It changes every turn.
Can two people play Artillery Duel on one device?
Yes. Choose pass-and-play and take turns on the same phone or computer. Against the computer you can pick an Easy CPU that aims roughly or a Hard CPU that calculates its shots.
Does Artillery Duel save my progress?
Partly. Artillery Duel keeps a running win/loss tally and your settings in this browser's local storage; there is no level progress to save. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
Is Artillery Duel unblocked at school or work?
Artillery Duel is a plain web page of about 46 KB — no plugin, no installer, no app store — so it loads on a Chromebook or a locked-down school or office laptop the same way any other page does, and the whole game arrives in one short download. Whether it opens comes down to your network's filter rather than the game itself.
