About Solitaire Classic
Everybody knows Solitaire Classic. This is that same card game, rebuilt for how it ought to feel in a browser. Instant deal. Buttery drag-and-drop with mouse or finger. Where Solitaire Classic comes from
Patience games are first described in Germany in the late 18th century, in the games book Das neue Konigliche L'Hombre-Spiel, and reached Britain and America in the following century through collections such as Lady Adelaide Cadogan's Illustrated Games of Patience (second edition 1874) and Dick's Games of Patience (1883); 'solitaire' became the usual American name in the 20th century. The seven-column layout everyone now calls solitaire is Klondike, whose earliest documented rules appear as 'Seven-Card Klondike' in the 1907 edition of Hoyle's Games and simply as 'Klondike' in the 1913 Official Rules of Card Games; the link to the Klondike gold rush is often assumed but unsupported by evidence, and in America the game was long known as Canfield, possibly after the Canfield Casino at Saratoga Springs, a name England uses for a different game. Inside Solitaire Classic: what we checked
The numbers below come from Solitaire Classic's own source code, and the screenshots are from our own test run of the game (20 October 2026).
- You choose Draw 1 or Draw 3 before dealing. Either way you can turn the waste back into the stock as often as you like; it counts as a move but costs no points.
- Scoring: +10 for a card to a foundation, +5 for a card from the waste to the tableau, +5 for turning a face-down card over, and -15 for moving a card back off a foundation. The score never drops below zero.
- Undo remembers your last 500 moves and puts the score back with each one.
- The Auto-finish button only appears once the stock is empty, every tableau card is face up, and a quick check confirms all four foundations can be completed.
- Games played, games won, your best time and your fewest moves are kept in this browser.

How to play Solitaire Classic
Build the four foundations from Ace to King by suit. Over on the tableau, stack cards in descending order with alternating colors, and you can move full runs between columns. Flip face-down cards as they get exposed, send Kings to empty columns, and when you're stuck, draw from the stock, which recycles forever. Clear all 52 cards to the foundations and you win.
Controls
Drag cards with the mouse or your finger, or just tap a card to auto-move it. Tap the stock to draw. U undoes, N starts a new deal, M mutes.
Tips & tricks
- Always flip a face-down card when you can — information wins games.
- Don't send cards to the foundations too eagerly; you may need them to build on.
- Empty a column only when you have a King ready for it.
- In draw-3, count the stock cycle to plan which cards you can actually reach.
