Where Solitaire Classic comes from
Patience games are first described in Germany in the late 18th century, in the games book Das neue Konigliche L'Hombre-Spiel, and reached Britain and America in the following century through collections such as Lady Adelaide Cadogan's Illustrated Games of Patience (second edition 1874) and Dick's Games of Patience (1883); 'solitaire' became the usual American name in the 20th century. The seven-column layout everyone now calls solitaire is Klondike, whose earliest documented rules appear as 'Seven-Card Klondike' in the 1907 edition of Hoyle's Games and simply as 'Klondike' in the 1913 Official Rules of Card Games; the link to the Klondike gold rush is often assumed but unsupported by evidence, and in America the game was long known as Canfield, possibly after the Canfield Casino at Saratoga Springs, a name England uses for a different game. How to play Solitaire Classic
Build the four foundations from Ace to King by suit. Over on the tableau, stack cards in descending order with alternating colors, and you can move full runs between columns. Flip face-down cards as they get exposed, send Kings to empty columns, and when you're stuck, draw from the stock, which recycles forever. Clear all 52 cards to the foundations and you win.
Controls
