About Night Highway
Night Highway is built the way arcade racers were built in the eighties: a road that rolls toward you out of the horizon, curving left and right, with the car seen from behind at the bottom of the screen. The setting is a city highway after dark, with a skyline of lit windows, a row of street lamps on each side and the red tail lights of the traffic ahead.
You are racing a clock, not another driver. The run starts with thirty seconds, and a green gate across the road marks each checkpoint, a little over a kilometre apart. Passing one adds time, a generous amount at first and less each time, so the margin shrinks the farther you go. The car accelerates on its own to 260 km/h. Your job is to keep it there.
Two things take speed away. Curves push the car toward the outside, and if you let it drift onto the verge it slows to a crawl until you steer back. And the traffic, cars and the occasional tall truck spread over three lanes, is doing less than half your speed. Hit one from behind and you lose two seconds and nearly all your momentum. Pass one closely at full speed, though, and you earn a close-call bonus that grows with every car in a row, up to eight times.
The score is distance plus bonuses, and a run ends when the clock reaches zero. Traffic gets heavier and the curves sharper the farther you drive. The best score and longest distance are saved.

How to play Night Highway
Steer left and right to change lanes and avoid the traffic. The car accelerates automatically; brake only when you are boxed in. Stay on the road through the curves, because the verge slows you down. Drive through each green checkpoint gate to add time to the clock. Passing close to a car at high speed earns bonus points. The run ends when the time reaches zero.

Tips & tricks
- Look at the tail lights far up the road and pick your lane early. Late swerves are how crashes happen.
- In a curve, hold a little steering against it the whole way through instead of correcting at the edge.
- Trucks are taller and a little wider than cars. Give them a full lane.
- A close pass only counts above about 150 km/h, so the bonus chain starts once you are back up to speed.

How do checkpoints work in Night Highway?
A green gate crosses the road roughly every 1.1 kilometres. Driving through it adds time to the clock: 16 seconds at the first checkpoint, one second less at each one after that, down to a minimum of 9.
What happens when I hit another car?
You lose two seconds from the clock, your speed drops to below the other car's, and your close-call chain resets. The car flashes for a second, during which you cannot crash again.
How is the score calculated?
You get one point for every 10 metres driven, plus close-call bonuses of 25 points multiplied by the number of cars passed closely in a row, up to eight.
