About Snake Boat Race
Snake Boat Race is based on the vallam kali, the boat races held on the backwaters of Kerala every monsoon. The boats are long and narrow with a raised stern, and each carries a large crew who row to the beat of a drum and a singer. A crew that keeps perfect time beats a stronger crew that does not. That idea is the whole game.
You control the rhythm of one boat with a single button. At the bottom of the screen is a golden ring, and on every beat a white ring closes in on it. Tap at the moment the two meet and all the oars pull at once. The game marks each stroke as perfect, good or off beat. A perfect stroke adds the most speed, a good one a little less, and a stroke off the beat adds almost nothing and breaks your run.
The boat is always slowing down, as a real one does between strokes, so speed has to be earned again on every beat. What changes is the tempo. Each stroke you land in time makes the drum a little quicker, up to about a third faster than it started. A faster drum means more strokes each second and a higher top speed. It also means less time to judge each tap, and one mistake drops the tempo back to the start.
Each race is 300 metres against three other boats. A bar at the top shows where all four are, and distance markers pass on the water. Only first place goes through. Win and the next race is against quicker crews. Finish second or lower and the regatta is over.
The early races can be won with steady, mostly good strokes. Later ones need long runs of perfect strokes at the fastest tempo, held for most of the course. Your best number of races won in a row is saved.

How to play Snake Boat Race
Watch the white ring close on the golden ring and tap exactly when they meet. A stroke in time speeds the boat up. Keep landing strokes and the beat gets faster, which raises your top speed. Miss a beat and the tempo resets. Finish the 300 metres in first place to move on to the next race.

Tips & tricks
- Listen as well as look. The drum sounds on every beat, and tapping to the sound is easier than watching the ring.
- Do not tap faster to catch up. An extra stroke off the beat adds almost nothing and resets the tempo.
- The tempo changes after each stroke in time. Expect the next beat slightly sooner than the last one.
- A good stroke keeps your run going just as a perfect one does. When the drum is fast, settle for good.
