Drag colorful hexagon blocks onto the honeycomb board and fill complete lines in any of the three directions to clear them. No timer, no luck. Just you, the grid, and a satisfying chain of clears.
About Tile Hive
Tile Hive is a chilled-out, brain-bending spin on the block-fitting puzzle, rebuilt on a hexagonal honeycomb instead of a square grid. Three randomly shaped hex pieces wait at the bottom of the screen, and you drag each one onto the board wherever it fits. The geometry is where the twist hides. Lines run in three directions across a hex grid, not two, so a single well-placed block can finish off rows you never even meant to set up. Fill any full line and it clears in a bright flash. Clear several at once and a juicy combo bonus stacks up. There's no clock here, so the only pressure is space. Every piece you drop eats into the board, and the game ends the moment none of your three pieces can fit anywhere, which makes the real skill reading ahead and leaving yourself room. A goal bar tracks your progress toward the next level, the difficulty creeps up as you climb, and a Hint button is always around to point out a legal move when you get boxed in. Easy to pick up, endlessly replayable, quietly addictive.
Inside Tile Hive: what we checked
The numbers below come from Tile Hive's own source code, and the screenshots are from our own test run of the game (20 October 2026).

- The board is a hexagon with 37 cells. A line is any full row in any of the three hex directions, so there are 21 lines to complete.
- The tray holds three pieces at a time, picked at random from 14 shapes of one to five hexagons. Pieces cannot be rotated, so the shape you are dealt is the shape you place.
- Placing a piece scores 1 point per hexagon. Clearing lines scores 8 points per cleared cell, multiplied by the number of lines you complete at once, so a double clear is worth far more than two single ones.
- Level 1 needs 50 points. Each level after that asks for 35 more than the one before: 85 for level 2, 120 for level 3, and so on. Points left over after a level-up count towards the next bar.
- The game ends as soon as none of the pieces left in your tray fits anywhere on the board. A new set of three arrives only once all three are used.
- Keys: arrows or WASD move a cursor, Q and E step diagonally, Space places, Tab or 1, 2, 3 picks a piece, H shows a hint and R restarts. Your best score is kept in this browser.

How to play Tile Hive
Drag one of the three hex pieces from the tray at the bottom onto the board. A piece can only land where all of its hexagons sit on empty cells inside the grid. Green highlight means it fits, red means it doesn't. Complete a full line in any of the three hex directions and those cells clear and score points, while clearing multiple lines in one move earns a combo bonus. Once all three pieces are used, three new ones appear. Fill the goal bar to advance a level. The game ends when none of your current pieces can fit anywhere. Tap Hint if you need to find a legal spot, or Restart to begin again.
Controls
Click or tap and drag a piece from the tray onto the board, then release to drop it. The Hint button highlights a piece and a spot where it fits; Restart starts a fresh board. Works with mouse on desktop and touch on mobile.
Tips & tricks
- Lines run in three directions on a hex grid — scan all three before you place, not just across.
- Set up two or three lines to complete at once for a big combo score bonus.
- Place big and awkward pieces early while you still have open space for them.
- Keep a pocket of empty cells in the middle so a stray large piece always has somewhere to go.
Frequently asked questions
Does Tile Hive save my progress?
Yes — Tile Hive keeps your best score and settings in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
Is Tile Hive unblocked at school or work?
Tile Hive is a plain web page of about 33 KB — no plugin, no installer, no app store — so it loads on a Chromebook or a locked-down school or office laptop the same way any other page does, and the whole game arrives in one short download. Whether it opens comes down to your network's filter rather than the game itself.
Who made Tile Hive?
Tile Hive was built in-house by the 360 PlayZone team using open web technology (HTML5), which is why it runs instantly without any download.
