Grab planks of your colour, stack them on your back, and lay them as stairs to the next floor before three rivals do. Bump a rival carrying fewer planks to scatter their stack. First to the rooftop trophy wins.
About Plank Race
Plank Race is a quick three-floor scramble against three computer rivals. Every floor is a small arena where planks keep appearing in four colours. Only your colour counts for you, so you run laps collecting them, your stack growing on your back and slowing you down a little with every plank. At the stairs you lay planks one per step, and you can only climb steps that are your colour, so a staircase another player built is no use to you until you have paved over it.
The bumping rule makes it a race rather than a chore. Run into a rival who is carrying fewer planks than you and half of theirs fly off across the floor. Get bumped while holding a small stack and you lose yours instead. The bots collect, build and occasionally bully, and they are good enough that a careless lap on the first floor costs you the race.
Each race takes about a minute, the staircase ticks, the floor fanfares and the rooftop confetti land every time, and new colours unlock as you win. It is a one-thumb game that works equally well on a phone, where you drag to run, and on a desktop with the arrow keys.

How to play Plank Race
Move around the floor and walk over planks of your own colour to pick them up. Carry them to the staircase and walk up it: each step you do not own costs one plank, and you can only climb steps that are your colour, so bring enough. Reach the next floor and repeat. Bump a rival carrying fewer planks than you to knock half of their stack loose. The first player to climb the final staircase to the rooftop trophy wins.
Controls
Desktop: WASD or the arrow keys to move, P to pause, M to mute. Touch: drag anywhere on the screen to run in that direction.
Tips & tricks
- Count the steps you do not own before you start climbing; running out halfway sends you back down.
- A heavy stack is slow. Twelve planks is plenty for a full staircase, so stop collecting and go.
- Bump rivals when they are heading for the stairs with a half-built stack; that is when a scatter hurts most.
- If the stairs are already your colour from a rival's bump, you need nothing: climb straight away.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not climb the stairs in Plank Race?
You can only climb steps that are your colour. Every step you do not own costs one plank from your stack, so collect enough planks before you walk onto the stairs.
What does bumping do?
If you run into a rival while carrying more planks than them, half of their planks scatter across the floor. If they are carrying more, you lose half of yours instead.
Is anything saved?
Your wins, races played and best finishing place are saved in your browser, and new character colours unlock as you win.
Does Plank Race save my progress?
Partly. Plank Race keeps a running win/loss tally and your settings in this browser's local storage; there is no level progress to save. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
