Dig straight down as a mole in a yellow hard hat. Tunnel through dirt and clay, grab gold and gems, set off TNT, dodge falling boulders and stay ahead of the tunnel caving in above you.
About Gold Burrow
Gold Burrow is a digging game with a deadline. You are a small mole in a yellow hard hat standing on the grass, and below you is a column of earth nine tiles wide and as deep as you can survive. Every tile you move into is dug out: soft dirt takes a moment, red clay takes more than twice as long, and grey rock cannot be dug at all, so you tunnel around it.
Two things are trying to stop you. The first is the cave-in. The tunnel collapses from the top down, slowly near the surface and faster the deeper you go, and if the rubble reaches you the run is over. A red glow at the top of the screen warns you when it is close. The second is the boulders. A round boulder sits still as long as something is underneath it. Dig the tile out from below, or walk under one, and it wobbles for a moment and then drops, flattening a mole who is still in its column.
The reward for all this is treasure. Gold nuggets and blue gems are worth more the deeper they are found, and a crate of TNT blows a three-by-three hole through everything around it, rock included, collecting any treasure in the blast. The score is your depth in metres plus the treasure you carried off. Runs are short, the ground is different every time, and the best score and deepest dig are saved.

How to play Gold Burrow
Use the arrow keys or hold a finger beside the mole to dig left, right, down or up. Dirt digs quickly, clay slowly, and rock not at all. Collect gold and gems by digging into them. Keep moving down, because the tunnel caves in from above. Do not stay in a column under a round boulder with empty space below it: it falls after a short wobble. Digging into TNT clears every tile around it.
Controls
Desktop: arrow keys or WASD to dig in that direction, P to pause, M to mute. Touch: hold a finger below, left of, right of or above the mole and it digs that way.
Tips & tricks
- Look two rows ahead. Rock directly below means a sideways detour, and it is cheaper to start it early.
- Clay costs more than twice the time of dirt. Go around a single clay tile if dirt is next to it.
- Never dig straight down while a boulder is wobbling above you. Step sideways and let it pass.
- TNT is the way out of a rock pocket: it removes the rock and the boulders around it.
Frequently asked questions
What ends a run in Gold Burrow?
Two things: the cave-in that follows you down from the surface, and a falling boulder landing on you. Rock, clay and TNT cannot hurt you directly.
When does a boulder fall?
A round boulder falls when the tile under it is empty and you are not standing in that tile. It wobbles for about half a second first, which is your warning to leave the column.
How is the score calculated?
One point for every metre of depth plus the value of the treasure collected. Gold starts at 10 points and gems at 50, and both are worth more every 20 metres down.
Does Gold Burrow save my progress?
Yes — Gold Burrow keeps your best score and settings in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
