Aim a fire hose at a burning apartment block. Spray each window before the fire takes hold, save the people calling for help and manage a water tank that drains as you spray. Lose six rooms and the building is gone.
About Fire Hose Hero
Fire Hose Hero gives you one firefighter, one hose and a whole building to look after. The front of an apartment block fills the screen, a grid of windows with the fire engine parked in the street below. Fires start in the windows one at a time, and your job is to put each of them out before it destroys the room.
You aim by pointing. Wherever the mouse or your finger is, the water arcs up from the nozzle and lands there about half a second later. Hold to spray. Each burning window has a fire that grows on its own and shrinks under water, so a small fire is gone in a moment while one that has filled the window takes more than a second of steady spraying.
A fire left alone goes through three stages. It grows until it fills the window. Once it is large it starts lighting the rooms beside, above and below it. And when it has burned at full size for five seconds, the frame flashes and the room is burnt out for good. That is one of six rooms you can afford to lose.
Water is the limit. The tank drains while you spray and refills only when you stop. Run it dry and the hose is useless until the tank is a quarter full again, which is long enough for a small fire to become a large one. Short bursts, each one aimed, keep the tank above empty. Spraying while you sweep between windows wastes most of it.
Now and then a person appears at a burning window, waving. Putting that fire out saves them and adds fifty points. Fires put out in quick succession build a chain worth up to five times the usual ten points, so clearing a cluster in one go pays far better than picking off single windows.
New fires arrive faster and grow faster the longer you last. The best score is saved.

How to play Fire Hose Hero
Point at a burning window and hold to spray it until the fire is out. Deal with large fires first, because they spread to the rooms around them and burn the room out after five seconds at full size. Stop spraying to let the water tank refill. The game ends when six rooms have burnt out.
Controls
Desktop: aim with the mouse and hold the button to spray, or move the aim with the arrow keys and hold Space; P to pause, M to mute. Touch: touch and hold a window to spray it.
Tips & tricks
- Spray in short bursts. An empty tank has to refill to a quarter before the hose works again.
- A window with a flashing frame has five seconds left. It comes before everything else.
- Put out the big fires before the small ones. A big fire lights its neighbours every few seconds.
- The water takes about half a second to arrive. Start spraying the next window before the stream finishes on this one.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my hose stop working in Fire Hose Hero?
The tank ran dry. It refills on its own when you are not spraying, and the hose comes back once the gauge reaches a quarter. Spraying in short bursts stops it emptying.
How does fire spread?
A fire that has grown to about three quarters of the window lights one neighbouring room every few seconds: left, right, above or below. Rooms already burnt out cannot catch fire again.
How do I save the people in the windows?
Put out the fire in their window before the room burns out. Each person saved is worth fifty points on top of the normal score for the fire.
Does Fire Hose Hero save my progress?
Yes — Fire Hose Hero keeps your best score and settings in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
