Rows of aliens are creeping down toward Earth, and you're the last line. Shoot them down before they land, and stay light on your feet when they shoot back.
About Alien Assault
Alien Assault is the arcade classic distilled to its most nerve-wracking essence: a grid of aliens shuffling side to side, dropping a row lower every time they hit the edge, and you pinned to the bottom with a single cannon and three flimsy bunkers. The loop is simple to grasp and brutal to master. Slide, aim, fire, dodge. Then do it faster, because here's the twist that makes it sing: every alien you clear speeds up the ones left behind, so a nearly empty screen turns into a frantic, click-clacking sprint against a handful of survivors that suddenly move like they mean it.
The good moments are all about reading the swarm. You learn to hollow out the edge columns so the formation stops sliding into your lap, to duck behind a bunker that's slowly crumbling to dust, and to snap off one greedy shot at the mystery saucer streaking across the top for bonus points. It's for anyone who wants tight, honest arcade tension in short bursts, whether you're chasing a high score or just proving you can hold the line one more wave.
Inside Alien Assault: what we checked
The numbers below come from Alien Assault's own source code, and the screenshots are from our own test run of the game (20 October 2026).

- You only steer. The cannon fires on its own, one pulse at a time, so the game is about where you stand: A or the left arrow and D or the right arrow move, P or Space pauses, and Enter ends the run and shows the info screen.
- Every ship takes 3 hits, and its colour shows how much it has left (orange, red, then dark red). A hit scores 10, 20, then 30, so destroying a ship is worth 60 points. Shooting down one of its falling boulders is worth 1 point.
- Level 1 has 3 ships and level 2 has 6; from level 3 there are always 10. Later levels make the ships and their boulders move faster, and the speed keeps rising until about level 18.
- You have 3 health. A boulder that hits the cannon costs 1, and you win one back for every 100 points scored since your last hit, up to the maximum of 3.
- The ships slowly descend, and a ship that is damaged but alive heals one step after it has dropped 10 boulders. The lowest ship comes down to the cannon's row and chases you, and touching it is an instant game over, whatever your health.
- Nothing is stored in the browser, so every game starts from level 1 and a score of 0. The game is open source (MIT licence) and based on Andromeda Invaders by Susam Pal.

How to play Alien Assault
Your cannon rides along the bottom of the screen. Slide it left and right, fire upward, and pick off the marching aliens one by one. Here's the catch: the fewer that are left, the faster the survivors move, so sloppy shots will cost you. Tuck behind the bunkers when the fire gets heavy. And keep half an eye on the top of the screen, because that mystery saucer streaking across is worth bonus points if you can tag it.
Controls
Left / Right arrows to move, Space to shoot.
Tips & tricks
- Take out the lowest aliens first to slow the descent.
- Use the bunkers for cover, but they wear away with every hit.
- Pick off the edge columns so the swarm has less room to advance.
Frequently asked questions
Does Alien Assault save my progress?
No. Alien Assault does not save anything between visits — every session starts fresh, and nothing is stored on your device or uploaded anywhere.
Is Alien Assault unblocked at school or work?
Alien Assault is a plain web page of about 63 KB — no plugin, no installer, no app store — so it loads on a Chromebook or a locked-down school or office laptop the same way any other page does, and the whole game arrives in one short download. Whether it opens comes down to your network's filter rather than the game itself.
