An io arena game about collecting swords. Every sword you pick up joins a ring spinning around you. Clash rings with a rival and both lose blades; the one who runs out first gets cut down.

About Sword Swarm

Sword Swarm is an io game with one rule that everything else follows from: more swords win. You are a small red blob in a round green arena scattered with swords. Walk near one and it lifts off the ground and joins the ring of blades orbiting you. Three swords become ten, then twenty, and the ring grows wider as it fills.

Nine or more rivals are doing the same thing, each with a name and a sword count under their feet. When your ring touches someone else's, the blades clash in a shower of sparks and both of you lose swords, one for one, several times a second. Whoever started with more comes out with something left, and the other is unarmed. An unarmed blob that touches a ring is sliced, drops a handful of swords on the ground, and is out. If you have a big enough lead, your ring simply reaches past theirs and ends it at once.

That makes every meeting a quick sum. The count is printed under every rival, the top five are on the leaderboard, and the leader wears a crown. Chase anyone clearly smaller, back away from anyone clearly bigger, and remember that a fight you win still costs you swords, so the third blob waiting nearby may be the real threat. A bigger ring also makes you slightly slower.

Each kill gives you three swords and points. The score also counts your largest ring and how long you lasted. New rivals keep arriving, and the run ends the moment you are sliced. Best score, kills and ring size are saved.

How to play Sword Swarm

Move around the arena and walk near swords on the ground to add them to the ring spinning around you. Touch your ring against a rival's ring to knock swords off both. When a rival has no swords left, touch them with your ring to slice them. Avoid rivals who have more swords than you. You are out if you are caught with no swords.

Controls

Desktop: move the mouse or use the arrow keys or WASD to move, P to pause, M to mute. Touch: hold a finger on the screen and your blob moves toward it. There is no attack button; the swords do the work.

Tips & tricks

  • Read the number under a rival before you commit. A fight costs both sides the same number of swords.
  • Collect first. The opening half-minute is safest spent gathering swords at the edge of the crowd.
  • After winning a clash you are weaker than you look. Scoop up the swords your victim dropped before the next fight.
  • Two rivals fighting each other will both end up small. Arrive when it is over.

Frequently asked questions

How does combat work in Sword Swarm?

When two rings of swords overlap, each side loses one sword several times a second. A player with no swords left is eliminated as soon as an armed rival's ring touches them.

What is the maximum number of swords?

Forty. Extra swords you walk over are still picked up off the ground, but your ring does not grow beyond that.

Are the other players real?

No. The rivals are computer-controlled, so there is no waiting, no lag and the game works offline once it has loaded.

Does Sword Swarm save my progress?

Yes — Sword Swarm keeps your best score and settings in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
