About Norman the Necromancer
Norman just wants to be left alone to study necromancy. The village, unfortunately, has had enough of him, and now they come wave after wave — pitchfork mobs and armoured knights marching down a single torchlit corridor. Norman answers the only way he knows: lobbing arcing bolts of magic with one hand and raising the dead with the other, because here every corpse is ammunition. Press Space and the fallen stand back up as skeletons that shamble into the fray for you.
Runs take shape between waves in the Rituals menu, where the souls of the slain buy healing, extra casts and stackable upgrades — spells that bounce, split, seek targets or trail lightning. The best moment in any run is holding a charged resurrection while a knight wades deep into a field of corpses, then raising the whole graveyard around him at once.
Built for the js13kGames 2022 competition, where it took 3rd place overall, the entire game fits in 13 kilobytes — perfect for anyone who likes short arcade roguelites whose builds get a little more absurd every wave. How to play Norman the Necromancer
Move the mouse to aim and click to cast a spell at the oncoming villagers and knights — your casts are limited and recharge over time. Every enemy that falls leaves a corpse, and pressing Space resurrects all of them at once as skeletons that fight for you. Kills earn souls; between waves, browse the Rituals menu with the up and down arrow keys and press Enter to buy healing, extra casts and stackable spell upgrades, then choose Continue to start the next level.
Controls
Mouse aims and a click casts, Space raises the dead, and the arrow keys plus Enter work the between-wave Rituals menu — resurrection and the menu need a keyboard, so it's a desktop game.
Tips & tricks
- Don't hit Space the moment resurrection recharges — let corpses pile up first, so one press raises a whole squad of skeletons in a knight's path instead of feeding him one at a time.
- Spells arc under gravity, so aim above distant enemies and let the bolt drop onto them — or buy the Weightless ritual and fire flat across the whole corridor.
- The Drunkard ritual makes your spells pass through the dead — grab it once you're raising big skeleton walls, so your casts reach the living enemies behind them.
- If Studious appears in the Rituals menu, take it early — halving the price of every later ritual compounds across the whole run more than any single upgrade.
