Twin-stick graveyard survival: fight escalating night waves of zombies, vampires and ghosts, shoot open boarded doors, scavenge weapons and ammo, and hold out as long as you can before you're dead again.

About Dead Again

Dead Again drops you into a moonlit graveyard where the darkness is part of the level design: a real line-of-sight shadow system hides everything you can't actually see, so every corner and doorway becomes a small act of faith. Built for js13kGames 2022 — the whole game fits in 13 kilobytes — it plays far bigger than that sounds, with crunchy weapons, a driving soundtrack by Andrei Moskvitin Josephsen, and undead that genuinely swarm.

The loop is pure twin-stick survival: zombies, vampires, ghosts and worse pour in, and the longer you last, the stronger they get. You carry one weapon at a time, each fed by its own ammo type, so a run becomes a chain of hard choices — keep the pistol you can supply, or grab the shotgun and gamble on finding shells. The signature moment is backing through a doorway mid-reload with the pack funnelling in after you, knowing one blast can erase the whole line.

It's for anyone who likes their arena shooters tense rather than flashy. Open-source game by sanojian, used under the MIT license.

How to play Dead Again

Move with WASD or the arrow keys and aim with the mouse — you fire toward the cursor. The undead waves grow stronger the longer you survive, so press R or Space to reload before they reach you. You carry one weapon at a time and each gun feeds on its own ammo type, with spare rounds hidden around the map. On touch screens the game switches to two virtual sticks: left to move (release to reload), right to aim (release to shoot).

Controls

WASD or arrow keys move, the mouse aims and fires, and R or Space reloads on desktop; on touch devices you get dual virtual sticks — left moves (release to reload), right aims (release to shoot).

Tips & tricks

  • Boarded-up doors can be shot to pieces — opening a second exit early beats discovering you're cornered when the swarm arrives.
  • The shadow system hides anything without line of sight, so swing wide around corners; a vampire two steps beyond the wall edge is invisible until it's on you.
  • You carry one weapon at a time and each needs its own ammo, so before swapping check whether you've actually been finding rounds for the new gun — extra ammo is hidden around the maps.
  • Save the shotgun for doorways and tight corridors: one blast can wipe out several weak enemies when the horde is forced to line up.
