About Nail Studio

Nail Studio runs the way a real appointment does, in six steps. You file first — square, round, almond, coffin or stiletto, and the longer shapes visibly overhang the fingertip once you pick them. Then you soak and buff, lay a base colour from twenty polishes, add art, place charms, and finish with a top coat. Ten nails across two hands, and the L and R buttons switch between them, so the hand you cannot see still counts towards every step.

The detail is where it gets interesting. Skipping the buffing step leaves a dull film on the plate that stays visible under the colour and under the gloss, so a rushed set looks rushed. The ombre pattern is drawn from your accent colour at the tip down into whatever base is already on that nail, which means the same pattern lands differently on every polish. Charms cap at three per nail and take the accent colour you have selected, and the eraser clears a nail if you overdo it. Every nail is independent: you can paint nine in one shade and leave one odd nail out, or give all ten something different.

When you finish, both hands appear side by side in a presentation shot with a rating out of 100 — filing, prep, base colour, detail, top coat and colour harmony, each shown as its own line so you can see exactly where the points went. The last design stays saved on your device, so you can pick it back up or start clean. There is an ALL button for the impatient, an undo for the rest, and a randomiser for when you want to see what the machine would wear.

How to play Nail Studio

Pick a tool on the right, then tap a nail. Drag across several nails to do them in one stroke, or press ALL to apply the current tool to all ten nails on both hands. NEXT moves you through the six steps — file, prep, colour, art, gems, gloss — and the arrow takes you back if you want to change something. Use the L and R buttons above the hand to switch to the other five nails. When the set is done, press DONE for the final shot and the rating.

Controls

Desktop: click a tool, then click or drag across the nails; U undoes, R randomises, arrow keys or Space change step, M mutes. Touch: tap a tool, then tap or drag across the nails, and use the buttons under the palette.

Tips & tricks

  • Buff every nail before you touch the colour. The dull film from the prep step is drawn on top of the polish, not under it, so a nail you skipped stays visibly cloudy no matter how good the base coat is.
  • Harmony is the easiest ten points on the board. Nine nails in one shade with a single accent nail scores it outright, and so does keeping every colour inside one narrow slice of the palette — mixing five unrelated shades is what costs you.
  • Ombre reads the base colour underneath it, so pick the base first and then the accent. A pale base under a dark accent gives the strongest fade; two similar shades barely show the gradient at all.
  • Charms stop at three per nail and stack outward from the tip, so place the one you care about first. If a nail gets crowded, the eraser clears all of its charms at once rather than one at a time.
