A tower defence game set in a back garden. Ants, flies, beetles and giant snails march down the path toward the vegetable patch. Build sprinklers, catapults, bee hives and frost blooms on the grass to stop them, and upgrade between waves.

About Garden Guard

Garden Guard is a classic path tower defence game with a gentle theme and a steep curve. A sandy path winds across a lawn to a small vegetable patch. Bugs enter at one end in waves and walk the path to the other, and every bug that reaches the vegetables costs a life. You have twenty.

The defences go on the grass, one per square, and each of the four does a different job. The Sprinkler is cheap and fires fast, which makes it the right answer to crowds of weak ants. The Catapult lobs a stone that damages everything near where it lands, so it earns its keep on bends where bugs bunch up. The Bee Hive has the longest reach and sends out a bee that homes in on one target for heavy damage, the tool for beetles and bosses. The Frost Bloom barely hurts anything, but every bug inside its ring moves at half speed, which gives everything else twice as long to work. Any tower can be upgraded twice for more damage and range, and sold back for sixty percent of what you spent on it.

The bugs change as the waves go on. Flies appear from wave three and move nearly twice as fast as ants. Armoured beetles arrive at wave five and soak up damage. Every fifth wave ends with a giant snail that takes five lives if it gets through. All of them get tougher by about a quarter each wave, while your income grows much more slowly, so placement matters more than quantity.

There is no final wave. The score is the wave reached plus bugs stopped. On a phone the garden turns upright with a different path. Best score and furthest wave are saved.

How to play Garden Guard

Choose a tower from the bar at the bottom and tap a grass square to build it. Towers shoot automatically at bugs in range. Tap an existing tower to see its range and to upgrade or sell it. Killing bugs and clearing waves earns coins. Press Start wave to bring the next wave early, and press it again during a wave to toggle double speed. The game ends when twenty bugs have reached the vegetable patch.

Controls

Desktop: click grass to build and click a tower to select it; keys 1 to 4 pick a tower type, Space starts the next wave or toggles double speed, P pauses, M mutes. Touch: tap the buttons, the grass and the towers.

Tips & tricks

  • Build on the inside of bends. A tower there covers the path twice.
  • Put a Frost Bloom where two or three other towers overlap. Slowed bugs take twice as many hits from each of them.
  • Catapults are wasted on straights. Place them where the path doubles back and bugs crowd together.
  • Save for a Bee Hive before wave five. Beetles and the first snail shrug off sprinklers.

Frequently asked questions

How many waves are there in Garden Guard?

There is no last wave. The bugs keep getting tougher, by roughly a quarter each wave, until twenty of them get through. Your score is based on the wave you reach.

What does the Frost Bloom do?

It slows every bug inside its ring to half speed and does a tiny amount of damage. It is a support tower: its value comes from the extra time it gives the towers around it.

Can I upgrade and sell towers?

Yes. Tap a tower to select it. Each tower can be upgraded twice, and selling returns sixty percent of everything spent on it.

Does Garden Guard save my progress?

Yes — Garden Guard keeps your best score and settings in this browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is involved — clearing your browser data is what resets it.
