A free drag racing game with one control: launch on the lights, then time every gear change inside a moving shift window. Spend the purse on engine, tyres, gearbox and nitrous, and climb a ladder of eight quicker cars.
Nitro Shift is a drag racer with exactly one input. Your car rolls to the line, the tree drops three amber bulbs, and everything after that is timing. The clock starts on green, so the gap between the light and your tap is measured to the millisecond and added to your run — a tenth asleep at the line is a tenth you will not get back over three hundred metres. Go before green and the engine stalls, which is the honest version of a red light: you still race, you just race from behind.
The rest of the run is five gear changes. The rev bar carries a green band with a brighter core, and the core sits somewhere different on every shift, so you cannot learn a rhythm and stop looking. Land the core and the shift is clean, the bottle opens, and back-to-back perfects make each pulse of nitrous stronger than the last. Shift early and the next gear starts under the torque curve with nothing to pull on; shift late and you have already been sitting on the limiter making noise instead of speed. Either way the car bogs and the chain resets to nothing.
Between runs the money goes into the garage. Engine, tyres, gearbox and nitrous each move a number you can read on the card, and the order you buy them in matters more than the total: power with no grip is smoke off the line, and a nitrous bottle you never chain is money parked. Eight computer-driven cars are waiting, each quicker than the one before, and losing to one costs you nothing except the chance to run it again with a better car and a sharper light.

Wait through the three amber bulbs and go on green — the gap between the light and your tap is your reaction, and it is added to your run. From then on the same tap changes gear: watch the rev bar and press while the needle is inside the green band, aiming for the brighter core in the middle. Land the core for a perfect shift and a pulse of nitrous; miss the band on either side and the engine bogs for half a second. Cross the line first to take the purse, then spend it in the garage before you run the next car on the ladder.
Desktop: press Space (or click the track) to launch and again for every gear change — one key does the whole run. ? opens the rules, N starts a new career, M mutes. Touch: tap the track to launch, then tap once per shift.

Buy grip before power. The traction ceiling only rises as the car gains speed, so at the line extra kilowatts just light up the rear tyres — the first two tyre levels are worth more than the first engine level, and they show up in the clean-run estimate on the garage card. Read the LED strip, not the needle. First gear sweeps the revs fastest of any gear, and the lights turn white the moment you are inside the core, which is a signal you can catch a tenth earlier than a moving bar. Nitro Shift is a plain web page — no plugin, no installer, no app store — so it loads on a Chromebook or a locked-down school or office laptop the same way any other page does. Whether it opens comes down to your network's filter rather than the game itself, and there is nothing to install either way.
