About Memory Flip
Memory Flip takes the oldest party trick in the book, concentration, and dresses it in cool neon glow. You flip one card, then a second, hunting for its twin. Find the pair and it locks face-up, humming quietly. Miss, and both cards flip back into the dark, daring you to remember exactly where that glowing symbol just was.
The pull is the quiet math of it. Every board can be cleared, but clearing it in few moves is another thing entirely. Peel back a fresh card, spot a symbol you saw three flips ago, and there's a small thrill in snapping straight to its partner instead of guessing. Chase a clean run and three stars are yours; get greedy and flip blindly, and the count creeps up while the stars slip away.
It rewards patience over speed, which is a nice change. Start from the same corner each round to build a mental map, work the edges where things are easier to place, and slow down when the grid grows. Where Memory Flip comes from
Flipping cards to find pairs is the parlour game called Concentration, Pairs or, in Britain, Pelmanism, after the memory-training courses that the Pelman Institute in London sold by correspondence from the 1890s; matching-pairs games are much older, and the Japanese shell-matching game kai-awase goes back to the 12th century. The boxed version most families own is Memory, developed by William Hurter in Switzerland from a family card game and published by Ravensburger in 1959, which has since sold more than 50 million copies in some 70 countries and whose name is a Ravensburger trademark in Germany.
