About Tile Pair Link
Strip mahjong of its stacked layers and you get this: a flat grid of tiles where every piece is technically reachable and the only thing standing between two twins is the route between them. A pair clears if a path connects them that turns at most twice, and it may run through empty space but never through another tile.
Because nothing is buried, the pressure moves entirely to geometry. Early on the board is a solid block and only the outer ring can connect to anything, so you work the edges. As gaps open, lanes appear across the middle and suddenly pairs that were impossible become trivial. Playing well means noticing which clears will open a long straight corridor, because those are worth far more than the match itself.
It is faster and more forgiving than stacked mahjong — you can almost always find something — but the endgame gets genuinely tricky when four stragglers sit in opposite corners with a wall between them. Good for a short sitting where you want the matching rhythm without the planning overhead of a full turtle board.
