About Ragdoll Hoops

Ragdoll Hoops gives each side one button and a body that flops like one: six points and eight sticks of verlet physics, no walking and no aiming. Hold your button to charge a jump and let go to leap, and the ragdoll always launches toward the nearest ball, so the obvious move punches the ball away from you. You score in the hoop on the far side of the court, so hitting the ball away from yourself is the same as hitting it home. Credit follows the last touch, which means a ball you shove through your own rim is waved off rather than gifted to your opponent, and a point that drags past twenty seconds is whistled dead and tipped off again. Matches run to five baskets.

Position beats power. Since your leap tracks the ball, the only way to send it back the other way is to land past it first, so most of a point is a scramble for the correct side of the ball, not a race to touch it. Charge shapes the leap, and its horizontal part comes from how far the ball is: a full 0.42-second hold with the ball across the court is a long flat dive, the same hold with the ball overhead is mostly height. In the air you get one arm swing per jump, the hardest contact available and the only shot you can steer late.

A court rule is drawn before every point after the first: low gravity, a giant or tiny ball, a bouncy or heavy one, ice floor, cross wind, super jump, high hoops, rims that bob up and down, or two balls at once. The tip-off is weighted too, drifting about a tenth of the court toward whoever is behind, so a lead never hands you the friendlier start. The computer plays at Rookie, Pro or Ace, which change its reaction time, how far it leads the ball, and how reliably it checks which side of the ball it is standing on before it swings — a Rookie will happily bat one into its own rim, an Ace almost never does. A second player can take the right-hand ragdoll on the same keyboard. The panel keeps games, wins, best streak and baskets between visits.

How to play Ragdoll Hoops

Hold your button to charge a jump and release to leap. Your ragdoll always jumps toward the ball, so you punch it away from you, and the hoop you are aiming for is the one on the far side of the court. A ball only counts when it drops down through the ring from above, and it counts for whoever touched it last — knock it through the rim behind you and the basket is waved off instead of handed to anyone. Press again while airborne to swing your arm, the hardest hit you have and one swing per jump. Any point still going after twenty seconds is whistled dead and tipped off again. A new court rule is drawn before every point, and the first side to five baskets wins.

Controls

Desktop: Player 1 holds W, Space or Z to charge and releases to jump; Player 2 holds the Up arrow. Playing against the computer, the Up arrow works for you too. P or Escape pauses, R restarts, M mutes and ? opens the rules. Touch: hold the left half of the stage for Player 1 and the right half for Player 2, releasing to jump; in a solo match the single pad fills the whole stage.

Tips & tricks

  • Your jump chases the nearest ball, so the way to reverse the ball's direction is to get behind it first. Hop past it with a short tap and let it come back to you instead of swinging from the wrong side.
  • Save the airborne press. Only a hand strike bends the ball toward the rim you are attacking; a head, chest or foot just shoves it wherever the bounce goes, and you get one arm swing per jump.
  • Match the charge to the distance. Horizontal speed comes from how far the ball is, so a full hold with the ball right above you only sends you higher, while a tap wastes the leap when the ball is across the court.
  • Once you lead, the next tip-off spawns nearer your opponent, which means they get the first touch and it points at the hoop you defend. Give up the chase and set up under your own rim instead of racing for a ball you cannot reach.
