Mahjong with the difficulty dial turned up — tighter layouts, a running clock, and boards built to punish a lazy first move.
If ordinary mahjong has stopped putting up a fight, this is the version that will. The layouts are denser, the timer is real, and several boards are constructed so that the obvious opening match is the wrong one. It is the same match-two-free-tiles rule underneath, but with far less slack in it.
What changes at this difficulty is how you use the opening thirty seconds. On an easy board you can start clearing immediately and think later. Here the correct play is to do nothing for a moment and read the stacks — find the tiles pinned under the deepest piles, work out which surface pairs will release them, and only then make your first move. Players who dive straight in usually stall out around the halfway mark with a board full of matches they cannot reach.
The clock adds a genuinely different pressure. Knowing the right move and finding it fast are separate skills, and this is one of the few mahjong boards that tests both. Clearing one cleanly with time to spare feels earned in a way the gentler versions do not.
